About David Barras-Baker
I’ve spent most of my working life exploring how people learn, how organisations adapt, and how leaders turn strategy into action. My career has taken me through learning and development, instructional design, business improvement, leadership capability, and the wider world of professional growth. What ties it all together is a simple question. How do we help people do better work and live better lives?
I work as a consultant, author, and learning strategist, helping organisations build capability in ways that actually stick. My focus is practical learning that solves real problems. Over the years I’ve guided teams through major change, designed blended learning pathways, advised leaders on culture and engagement, and helped individuals lift their confidence and performance. I enjoy taking complex ideas and making them workable for everyday use.
Along the way I wrote ADDIE on Steroids, a major deep dive into the future of instructional design. The book blends the classic ADDIE model with modern AI tools and techniques. It gives practitioners a fresh, structured way to build learning solutions that are faster, sharper, and more aligned to real business needs. The work continues through online resources, templates, and practical guides that help professionals apply the ideas in their own roles.
Professionally I focus on learning architecture, capability frameworks, organisational performance, leadership behaviour, and the growing field of AI-supported work and training. Personally, I enjoy exploring big-picture ideas from science, philosophy, metaphysics, systems thinking, and innovation. You will see both sides reflected in this site because I’ve always believed that good work sits at the meeting point between curiosity and practicality.
This space isn’t about oversharing or personal detail. It is a place to explore ideas, share lessons, break down complex topics, and add value wherever I can. I write for people who enjoy learning, questioning, and improving. Leaders, entrepreneurs, L&D professionals, thinkers, creators, and anyone who likes to explore the world with a bit of humour and open-mindedness.
If you’re building capability in your organisation, exploring AI, looking to deepen your learning practice, or simply enjoy thought-provoking articles on business, technology, and personal growth, I reckon you’ll feel at home here.
